SUB.two won InfoComm 2012 Best in Show in the Professional Sound category. SUB.two is the world’s first hybrid subwoofer system, combining a bent bass horn with a direct-radiating subwoofer.

Avalon on the A-List

Avalon by EAW was in the action at Madonna's recent MDNA official CD release party.

Avalon by EAW features automotive-class finishes on all trim pieces. Optional premium enclosure finishes set these systems in a class by themselves.

For Winter Music Conference 2012, EAW supplied four CLUB.two systems for the main dance floor and two CLUB.three systems for DJ monitors.

Avalon by EAW represents a radical departure from any dance club loudspeaker ever created, including our own original Avalon Series. Everything about Avalon by EAW breaks new ground. The system design turns the loudspeaker inside-out, mounting the MF/HF horn outside the grille. And the grille - concave and sculpted in clean, straight lines - expresses the symmetry that unifies the design.

All Avalon by EAW orders must specify a finish package. Standard packages include four options for the grille and logo. Horn (where exposed) and surround trim ring can match the grille/logo (color-matched) or match the enclosure, using the premium finish (Piano for standard black / Polar for standard white). Premium packages use automotive-class enclosure finishes in Piano Black and Polar White.

Even the best loudspeaker designers struggle to meet the demands of the dance club world. And nobody in the dance club world has the scientific background or the technical facilities necessary to design a top-quality loudspeaker system. But Avalon by EAW is different from everything else. These amazing loudspeakers result from a unique partnership between a dance club designer and a loudspeaker designer. By combining their skills, they produced the most remarkable loudspeaker technology ever applied to the dance club world.

  • Mid/Highs (500 Hz to 20kHz)

The word here is “efficiency”. EAW engineers have specified a coaxial mid/high compression with such high sensitivity that it produces peak output of around 136 dB using only 150 Watts of amplifier power. This compression driver, used in both the CLUB.two and the CLUB.three, is then loaded with 90 (h) by 60 (v) and 90 by 90 horns, respectively.

The acoustical challenge in the mid/high region has always come from physically aligning the mid and high frequency sections to sum coherently, without anomalies in the crossover region. Because the Avalon by EAW uses a single, coaxial mid/high driver, EAW engineers have eliminated this problem entirely.

  • Bass (100 Hz to 500 Hz)

Except in rare circumstances, EAW engineers prefer to use smaller low frequency cones to avoid a loose, sloppy bass sound. To get the right amount of output, they use many of them together. The exception, of course, comes when they find a larger cone driver that has the speed required to work on its own. In Avalon, they’ve used both approaches.

CLUB.two. uses four 12-in LF cones arranged in a symmetrical pattern behind the mid/high section. These drivers sum to produce the output of larger drivers without suffering from the slow response usually associated with big cones.

CLUB.three is the exception to the rule. It uses a remarkable 15-in LF cone with a motor so strong that it delivers crisp, snappy response to well below 100 Hz. For this reason, this single 15-in cone requires an astounding 1700 Watts of amplifier power at 8 Ohms.

  • Sub Bass (20 Hz to 100 Hz)

Avalon by EAW sub bass technology represents an entirely new platform designed exclusively for the dance club community.

The all-new Hybrid Subwoofer Technology™ in the SUB.two combines the best part of the two most common types of subwoofer: direct radiators and bass horns. Direct radiators employ large cones in large enclosures to generate warm, deep bass in the lowest octave. Bass horns load smaller drivers on long, “bent” horns to generate the punchy sound so prized in the dance club world.

SUB.two loads dual 12-in cones on a bent horn, but then installs a powerful 21-in cone at the end of the flare. This revolutionary approach delivers both warm, rich, ultra-low bass and a concussive, physical punch.

Because it uses two separate subsystems, this allows EAW engineers to work with venue designers and DJs to custom craft processer settings to meet their specific tastes.

  • fenway park

On the south side of Boston's Lansdowne Street sits historic Fenway Park, home to Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox and, on the north side, an equally famous row of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. In 1997, the largest of those nightclubs, named Avalon, was known globally as a place where DJs launched their careers. Obsessed with quality in all things, the owner John Lyons had searched the world to find loudspeaker systems that delivered the power and clarity he sought.

    Nothing he found satisfied him.

Meanwhile, a loudspeaker design and manufacturing company called Eastern Acoustic Works, equally obsessed with quality, was creating breakthough technologies in nearby Whitinsville, MA. Lyons approached EAW with an idea – to co-develop a line of loudspeaker systems specifically optimized for dance clubs.

  • avalon grille

In 2011, Lyons and EAW decided to redesign the Avalon line with no preconceptions, as if the original line had never existed. The all-new Avalon by EAW sets a new benchmark for club sound, and like its predecessor, its presence will define the state-of-the-art in the global dance club community.

  • Every Installation Must Be a Gem

Avalon by EAW delivers the ultimate dance club sound experience for those who seek the very finest life has to offer. To ensure that every Avalon by EAW installation is an absolute gem, all projects must use an Avalon by EAW Authorized Sound Designer from our global network of the world's best dance club sound designers.

Authorized Sound Designers will work in partnership with venue owners, architects, interior designers and EAW's renowned Application Support Group (ASG) to create and install sound systems carefully crafted to the needs of each venue.

After ASG reviews and approves a design submitted by an authorized sound designer, EAW will accept an order and the system can be installed. When installation is complete, ASG will visit the site to inspect and help commission the system. All commissioned systems will be certified with an Avalon by EAW Certified plaque listing the club name, registration number and date of commissioning.

Avalon by EAW is a brand new product line, and it has never been installed in any dance club. However, as part of the development process, a set of prototype systems were developed specifically for the 1Oak club in Las Vegas. John Lyons personally oversaw this project.

1Oak held its grand opening celebration on New Year’s Eve 2012, hosting a list of music and entertainment industry royalty, including Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas as hostess as well as Kanye West and Kid Cudi.

  • The Launch Event - Ultra Week Pool Parties 2012

Avalon by EAW saw its official launch in Miami Beach at the world-famous Delano Hotel pool. A special system of four CLUB.two mains powered the dance floor. Two CLUB.three mains served as DJ monitors.
